EMC180 Net Control Training To: Emergency Communications Units - Information Bulletin To: Emergency Management Agencies via Internet and Radio By: Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services EMC180 Net Control Training For release 4/19/1999 Certified Net Control Training is a vital part of the training program for the Huntington Beach RACES unit. It's May, l998 News letter put it this way: "The Net Control Training Team has worked hard to determine what information to teach and how each individual could best demonstrate their ability to run the Huntington Beach RACES Net in an emergency. The Team has succeeded in developing a simple classroom training program followed by individual drills for RACES personnel. The class is divided into three parts; Part I, Classroom Training - The classroom training is open to ALL RACES personnel and all are encouraged to attend. Part II, Tactical Command Trailer - Training on how to operate in the Tactical Command Trailer will be done at Field Day. RACES Field Day and Camp CERT will be held in xx and all are invited to spend the weekend. The Tactical Command Trailer training will be held from 1-4 PM on Saturday. A certificate is part of the Net Control Credential program. Part III, EOC Drill - The EOC Drill consists of message handling from the RACES Radio Room in the EOC. You will operate at Net Control while other RACES personnel send field messages. The Team has scheduled the following dates xxxxxx in the EOC. You will need to sign up for one of them and can attend only one. You can observe prior to going through the drill. If you have difficulty demonstrating the capability to run the Net the first time you try, may may come back and try again at one of the later dates." (end of quote.) ______ One method of training HF net control operators was described some years ago by Stan Harter, KH6GBX (deceased) because he felt HF net control required skills often not learned on vhf/uhf nets. Here is a general description of his idea: Set up an audio amplifier system with speakers and mikes in a building. Put the class of net control operators in one room, the trainers in another, and provide the trainers with the ability to introduce HF background 'noise', "qrm", "static" and "real time interference" into the "net" that is conducted on the audio system. In other words, for HF Net Control operators, provide them with exactly the same conditions they can face on-the-air, but do so in an in-house audio setup that emulates the real net. --- To subscribe to bulletins, use the Subscription Services web page at .
