EMC117 Family Protection To: Emergency Communications Units - Information Bulletin To: Emergency Management Agencies via Internet and Radio By: Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services EMC117 Family Protection For release 2/2/98 The loss of a home can be a frightening occurrence. While it is hoped that you never experience that, the collection of vital family information ahead of time is a wise precaution. Here is a "Family Information Record" as suggested in the December l997 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Newsletter of the City of Huntington Beach, CA: "Store the following information in at least two safe places. Consider using a fire resistant "get away" box, a tightly sealed freezer bag in the freezer or the home of your out-of- state family contact, and safe-deposit box. 1. Full name and Social Security numbers of all family members. 2. License numbers and identification of vehicles, boats, etc. 3. Charge and bank account numbers, insurance policy numbers, securities, deeds and loan numbers showing company name, address and phone numbers. 4. Name, address and telephone numbers of: employer, utility companies, school, attorney, family contacts, doctor, hospital 5. Location of important documents such as: insurance policies, social security cards, deeds,loans, citizenship papers, will and letter of instruction, securities, health history, safe- deposit box key, tax returns (last 5 years) vehicle titles (pink slips), licenses, birth/death certificates 6. Photograph or video tape of all valuables for documentation for insurance claims." ______________ The same newsletter suggested each person assemble a "Grab 'n Go Bag" that can be used when an immediate evacuation of your home is necessary. It recommended NOT storing water and snack food in it due to leakage and spoilage.
